2016 Cooking Demonstrations

The cooking demonstrations at Ottawa Veg Fest are very popular so come early to get a seat.  Our featured chefs come from some of Ottawa’s best restaurants and bakeries. Last year we have a well-known guest chef from Toronto. The 2016 schedule is shown below along with details about the demonstrations and chefs. This year’s line up will be posted once it is finalized.

Special thanks to volunteers from the National Capital Vegetarian Association for their coordination of the cooking demonstrations.

About the Chef:

Erin, store manager at Strawberry Blonde Bakery, has been baking vegan and gluten-free products for the last 2 years. After a brief stay in the publishing industry, Erin decided to return home to Ottawa and pursue her passion for baking full-time. A graduate from Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa and Algonquin College, Erin found her niche when she joined Strawberry Blonde Bakery. They have created a safe bakery where the growing number of people with food allergies and sensitivities can buy a treat and not have to worry about cross-contamination, while also not having to compromise on taste or aesthetics. Their goodies are known throughout Ottawa to taste just as tasty (nay! better!) than their conventional counterparts.

About the Chef:


I am driven to create beautiful and delicious food that is healthy, organic, and vegan, in my attempt to challenge mainstream thought on diet and ethics. Everything I craft is inspired by the highest quality plant-based ingredients, grown by conscious farmers. In my hometown of Toronto, I serve fresh food and inspiration out of my Public Kitchen, as well as being a proud vendor at the thriving Evergreen Brickworks Farmers’ Market. I am grateful to be given regular appearances on television, online, and in print, as well as to consult on and collaborate with emerging and successful brands.

After writing three cookbooks in three years, I have over one thousand cooked and raw vegan recipes in circulation. My first book “Eat Raw, Eat Well, 400 Raw, Vegan, and Gluten Free Recipes” received the award for “Best Vegetarian Cookbook in the World, 2012” by the World Gourmand Cookbook Awards held in Paris, France.

Head Chef Ian Lipski was trained in London, England in French Haute Cuisine, and has since worked in Nassau, Bahamas and Canada. With over 30 years of experience, Ian strives to create a vegetarian meal for every taste. Working creatively from the ground up to make uniquely vegetarian fare, Ian is personally responsible for over 200 vegetarian recipes, which you can find on his website, thevegetariankitchen.com

About the Chef:

Amy Longard is a professionally trained plant-based chef and Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN).  She attended culinary school at the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York City and completed her nutrition studies at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in Ottawa. She interned at Verdure, Mario Batali’s vegetarian restaurant located in Eataly in NYC and has cooked for yoga retreats locally and abroad. Drawing from her culinary and nutrition training, she’s passionate about helping people reach their goals and overcome health challenges. About the Chef:

Little Jo Owner/Head Baker/Most Excellent Barista Little Jo was trained in specialty baking. She particularly excelled at vegan and gluten-free treats. Learning with her hands and through experience, she quickly became taken by creating recipes and experimenting with different ingredients. Working in local shops such as Bridgehead Coffeehouses and Auntie Loo’s Treats she was given a rare opportunity to take part in smaller, community-driven projects and ambitions. Being able to work with small businesses and other local people was especially inspiring. It quickly became a dream of hers to create her own space that could house this creativity and neighbourhood flow.
